Existing rule-based systems are unsuccessful at identifying dangerous medication-related errors and have high false alarm rates—putting patients at risk and causing provider alert fatigue.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA) evaluated the accuracy and clinical relevance of insights provided by MedAware's medication safety monitoring platform in an inpatient setting.
Compared to the legacy clinical decision support system (CDSS), MedAware's system generated almost 100 times fewer alerts, which were 5 times more clinically relevant and caused more than 8 times as many changes in prescribing.
